7 Reasons Why Aamir Khan Kiara Advani Ad Is Facing Flak On Twitter

Months after railing against Laal Singh Chaddha, people have now started another boycott campaign against Aamir Khan. This time it’s not a three-hour movie but a 50-second bank commercial featuring him and actor Kiara Advani.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri shared the video of the ad on social media, criticising the brand for its misplaced ‘social activism’ and calling its makers 'idiots.'

Here are seven reasons why Aamir Khan Kiara Advani ad is facing flak

• The ad shows Khan and Advani as newlyweds travelling back from their wedding in a car. They discuss that none of them cried during the bidaai (a post-wedding ceremony) before they reach their house.
• It is then revealed that Khan is seen playing a son-in-law who moves in with his wife for her ailing father’s sake.
• A flip on the age-old custom, the groom takes the first step in their new house, as opposed to the tradition of the bride doing so.
• Khan then appears in a bank and says in Hindi, “Why should traditions that have continued for centuries continue to do so? That’s why we question every banking tradition. So that you get the best service.”
• The Kashmir Files director took to Twitter and wrote, "I just fail to understand since when banks have become responsible for changing social & religious traditions?'
• The ad has also been slammed by many social media users for ‘mocking’ Hindu culture and showing traditions in a bad light.
• One wrote, "Aamir Khan, once again, mocks Hindu traditions & insults our emotion."

The actor is not new to controversies. Earlier, the actor was criticised for statements he made about religious intolerance back in 2016, where he said his then-wife Kiran Rao felt ‘unsafe’ in India. People recalled the statement when he was promoting his new film Laal Singh Chaddha last month and opened calls to boycott the movie. Laal Singh Chaddha was eventually a box office failure.
