The 70th National Film Awards will take place at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on October 8, with President Droupadi Murmu set to honour the award recipients. This year's ceremony will recognise the finest films from 2022, along with exceptional performances by actors and crews from across the nation. Notable attendees include Rishab Shetty, Nithya Menen, Sooraj Barjatya, and Neena Gupta. Several films, including Aattam, Brahmastra, and Ponniyin Selvan, will be celebrated during the awards.

When & Where To Watch 70th National Film Awards

The ceremony will be broadcast live on DD National starting at 3 PM, allowing viewers to catch the winners walking the red carpet before the main event kicks off at 4 PM. For those unable to watch on television, the ceremony will also be streamed live on DD National's YouTube channel.

Who Are The Winners? 

The Malayalam film Aattam emerged as the big winner, taking home the award for Best Feature Film along with accolades for Best Screenplay and Best Editing.

In the acting categories, Rishabh Shetty won the Best Actor award for his powerful performance in Kantara. The Best Actress award was shared between Nithya Menen for her role in Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for The Kutch Express.

Uunchai was another big winner of the night, with Sooraj Barjatya receiving the Best Director award and Neena Gupta winning Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Gupta’s daughter, Masaba Gupta, shared her excitement on Instagram, noting that this was her mother’s first National Award in 40 years.

Ayan Mukerji's film Brahmastra also made its mark at the awards, winning three accolades: Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics), Best Male Playback Singer for Arijit Singh’s rendition of Kesariya, and Best Music Direction (Songs).

In the technical categories, Ponniyin Selvan I stood out, winning four awards: Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Music Direction (Background Score), and Best Tamil Film. This success added to the film's already strong reputation.

In the non-feature film category, Vishal Bhardwaj won Best Music Direction for his work on Fursat. Expressing his happiness, Bhardwaj shared that this was his ninth National Award and emphasised its importance as the biggest recognition in the country.

The Best Child Artist award went to Sreepath for his performance in Malikappuram, adding to the evening's celebration of talent across generations.
