The winners of the 70th National Film Awards were announced at the National Media Centre in New Delhi, bringing recognition to a diverse range of films across India. Actors Nithya Menen, Manasi Parekh, and Neena Gupta celebrated their first National Awards, while Vishal Bhardwaj secured his ninth. Read on to find out who else took home the top honours.

The Malayalam film Aattam emerged as the big winner, taking home the award for Best Feature Film along with accolades for Best Screenplay and Best Editing.

In the acting categories, Rishabh Shetty won the Best Actor award for his powerful performance in Kantara. The Best Actress award was shared between Nithya Menen for her role in Thiruchitrambalam and Manasi Parekh for The Kutch Express.

Uunchai was another big winner of the night, with Sooraj Barjatya receiving the Best Director award and Neena Gupta winning Best Actress in a Supporting Role. Gupta’s daughter, Masaba Gupta, shared her excitement on Instagram, noting that this was her mother’s first National Award in 40 years.

Ayan Mukerji's film Brahmastra also made its mark at the awards, winning three accolades: Best Film in AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics), Best Male Playback Singer for Arijit Singh’s rendition of Kesariya, and Best Music Direction (Songs).

In the technical categories, Ponniyin Selvan I stood out, winning four awards: Best Cinematography, Best Sound Design, Best Music Direction (Background Score), and Best Tamil Film. This success added to the film's already strong reputation.

In the non-feature film category, Vishal Bhardwaj won Best Music Direction for his work on Fursat. Expressing his happiness, Bhardwaj shared that this was his ninth National Award and emphasised its importance as the biggest recognition in the country.

The Best Child Artist award went to Sreepath for his performance in Malikappuram, adding to the evening's celebration of talent across generations.
