The People VS Indira Gandhi: Producer Ekta Kapoor announced that she will be making a web series called Verdict 2: The People v/s Indira Gandhi.
She took to Twitter to make an announcement about the upcoming series. "Time for Verdict2. The People v/s Indira Gandhi. A woman of worth admiration and critique. Our most ambitious story to tell... based on these in-depth stellar books," she tweeted.
The series will be based on the life of India's first woman prime minister Indira Gandhi. It will revolve around the events of the National Emergency which was imposed in 1975.
Here are 7 things to know about Verdict 2: The People v/s Indira Gandhi:
- Verdict 2: The People v/s Indira Gandhi appears to be a sequel to Ekta Kapoor's show The Verdict – State vs Nanavati. It streamed on ALT Balaji and ZEE5 in 2019.
- It was based on the KM Nanavati case, wherein, a naval commander had to undergo trials for the murder of his wife's lover.
- The previous show had started actors such as Manav Kaul, Sumeet Vyas, Elli AvrRam, Angad Bedi and Kubbra Sait, etc.
- The second show in the Verdict series is based on two books: The Case That Shook India: The Verdict That Led to the Emergency written by Prashant Bhushan and Emergency Retold written by Kuldeep Nayar.
- Verdict 2: The People v/s Indira Gandhi will be based on the National Emergency which was announced by Indira Gandhi. The emergency had lasted for two long years between 1975-1977, during which, many restrictions were imposed on citizens' fundamental rights.
- Earlier, Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut had announced that she will be portraying India's first female prime minister on the big screen. She had also added that the film will be a political drama and not a biopic on Indira Gandhi.
- Actor Vidya Balan had also revealed that she would be playing the role of Indira Gandhi in a web series. However, no development has happened as yet.
