5 Highly Anticipated Horror Film Releases In 2023

  1. Evil Dead Rise

">Evil Dead Rise, written and directed by Lee Cronin, is set to release tomorrow on 21 April. This latest installment in the franchise departs from the usual setting of a rundown cabin in the woods and takes place in Los Angeles. The film follows a single mother, Ellie, played by Alyssa Sutherland, who becomes possessed by the Kandarian Demon after her family discovers a new Book of the Dead. Her estranged sister Beth, played by Lily Sullivan, must then step up to save Ellie's children from their demon-possessed mother. The film boasts a cast that includes Morgan Davies and Nell Fisher. Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell will be serving as executive producers for the fifth installment of the franchise, which is highly anticipated by fans.

  1. The Boogeyman

On 2 June, the famous horror author Stephen King's short story, The Boogeyman, will be released. The entire tale occurs in a psychiatrist's office, where the narrator describes his unpleasant past with the frightening monster. Rob Savage's upcoming horror film adaptation will expand the story's thrill by narrating a creepy account of a psychologist's daughters who are being haunted by an enigmatic entity after their father's encounter with an unstable patient. It features Chris Messina, Sophie Thatcher, and Vivien Lyra Blair, and is expected to be quite scary. Anticipate a gradual, unsettling sense of fear as Savage translates one of the few stories left unadapted from King's renowned debut horror collection into cinematic form.

  1. Insidious 5

Patrick Wilson, known for his portrayal of Ed Warren in The Conjuring, will be directing"> Insidious: Fear the Dark, set to release on 7 July. Rose Byrne will also be returning as Renai Lambert, while Lin Shae's Elise Ranier will not be making an appearance in the film. Insidious 5 takes place 10 years after the first film and follows Dalton Lambert (played by Ty Simpkins) as he heads off to college. It is expected that the story will continue to explore Dalton's astral projection experiences while he sleeps.

The much-awaited addition to the Conjurverse franchise, The Nun 2, is all set to release on 8 September. The upcoming horror film is a sequel to the popular film The Nun, but there is little information available about the storyline. However, the film boasts a talented cast, with Taissa Farmiga (known for her role in American Horror Story) reprising the character of Sister Irene, and Bonnie Aarons returning as the terrifying titular nun. Moreover, Anna Popplewell will be seen as Marcella, Katelyn Rose Downey as Sophie, and Storm Reid (from Euphoria) will be taking up an undisclosed key role in the film.

  1. The Exorcist

The sequel to the 1973 horror classic, which tells the story of a 12-year-old girl who is possessed by an unknown demonic entity, is set to be released on 13 October. The upcoming film will see Ellen Burstyn reprising her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, which earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress over 40 years ago. The producers include Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson, while Green, McBride, and Couper Samuelson are executive producers.
