Ekadashi vrats are an auspicious occasion for Hindu religion. Etymologically, Ekadashi refers to the eleventh day of the lunar month during the Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha respectively. Hence, Hindus celebrate two Ekadashi in a month. Mainly, during Ekadashi vrats, devotees worship Lord Vishnu. They observe a day long fast and conduct vigils, recite mantras, bhajans and Satyanarayan Katha. However, some devotees who cannot observe a day-long fast can go for partial fasts in which consumption of fruits and milk products are allowed. But devotees are strictly prohibited from consuming rice and grain. The fast ends on the next day.
