She raised questions on the government's new oxygen plant installation initiative, processed to keep up with the rising oxygen demand amid the coronavirus pandemic in the country, and expressed saying that she feels we are "forcefully" drawing oxygen from nature and are not giving it back anything. In a series of tweets, Ranaut claimed that while people are "building more and more oxygen plants, getting tons and tons of oxygen cylinders", we are not even slightly compensating for all the oxygen that we are taking from the environment. "It seems we learnt nothing from our mistakes and catastrophes they cause #Planttrees," she tweeted about balancing what we take from the environment.

Hence, she urged people to plant more trees rather than installing oxygen plants as the country is facing a chaotic rise of COVID-19 cases.
She added that needy patients who take medical oxygen for their treatment should also give back to nature. She stressed how the government must announce more and more relief for nature as humans are in desperate need.

Her comment came after the Delhi High Court on Saturday said that hospitals should learn from their experiences regarding oxygen scarcity during the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. "Oxygen plants are essential. It is irresponsible not to have them," the bench had said.

Calling it "unscientific", several social media users pointed out how her opinion was insensitive at a time when hundreds of Indians are dying due to lack of oxygen in hospitals. "I get that you are making a larger point about better air, but even in Switzerland, if a patient needs medical Oxygen, the patient needs medical Oxygen. Making them lie outside next to Lake Geneva is not going to help," one user told her. Another wrote, "Nobel prize for Environmental studies! Move over @GretaThunberg. Kangana is here!"
On the work front, this year, Ranaut has lined-up projects which include, upcoming biopic Thalaivi, Tejas and Dhaakad.
