In these desperate times, people are trying to raise their fitness levels and boost their immunity. Celebrity trainer Anushka Parwani shared some tips on social media about how to stay safe.

While wearing a mask, washing hands regularly and maintaining social distancing are imperative measures, omicron is highly infectious and one can still get infected. The effects of COVID-19 can be minimised by boosting immunity. Along with following a prescribed treatment from a registered medical practioner, one can enhance their immunity by undertaking physical exercises such as Yoga.

Celebrity instructor, Anushka Parwani, who has trained actresses like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Alia Bhatt and Ananya Panday, took to Instagram to share a seven-pointer-guide for boosting immunity against COVID-19.

According to Parwani, enhanced immunity can be achieved by simple Yoga techniques and exercises. She has mentioned activities like Pranayam, Asanas and breathing exercises along with detailed techniques to practise each at the comfort of one’s home.

Here’s how these exercises help in increasing metabolism in the body to facilitate recovery and boost immunity:

  1. Pranayam and Breathwork

There are three techniques mentioned in the guide to practise breathing exercises: Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom, Bhastrika. The celebrity trainer mentioned that these exercises can help in increasing lung capacity and better oxygenation and exhalation of carbon dioxide from the body.

  1. Belly Breathing

The second exercise mentioned by the instructor is belly breathing. She posted a video with actress Rakul Preet Singh to facilitate the technique of the exercise. She mentioned that this helps in reducing the stress response in the body which in turn releases anxiety and tensions.

  1. Sama Vritti Breathing

The third exercise is Sama Vritti Breathing where one creates equal proportions of inhalation and exhalation. The celebrity trainer listed a step-by-step guide to performing this activity to increase immunity in the body.

  1. Box Breathing

The fourth exercise, box breathing, helps to feel “more grounded” while one is experiencing anxiety. One can easily feel calm by repeating the process of this breathing technique.

  1. Easy Stretches and Asanas

In the fifth, she incorporated a few easy stretches and asanas for one to practice at home to increase immunity and lung capacity. She shared visuals of asanas like cat/cow pose, butterfly pose, seated pigeon pose, side stretch, wide release pose for one to refer.

  1. Lower Back Stretches

For the people engaged in work from home, she demonstrated a series of lower back stretches to help aid lower back pains, tension and stiffness from extended incorrect postures.

  1. Stress-relief Asanas

At last, the celebrity trainer concluded by demonstrating some stress-relief asanas to deal with the pertinent stress and tensions of life. The asanas mentioned were Anjaneyasana or Low Lunge Pose, Sukhasana or Seated Pose, Setu Bandhasana or Bridge Pose, Uttana Shishosana or Puppy Pose, Malasana or Garland Pose and Gomukhasana or Cow Pose.
