Rajasthan, Jharkhand, and Chandigarh imposed COVID-19 restrictions such as Section 144 and lockdowns due to the rise in daily cases. The following COVID-19 restrictions were imposed.
The State Home Department of Rajasthan stated that Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be imposed from April 22 till May 21. A 15-day lockdown is already in effect till May 3.
The state government also issued directions to frontline workers selling vegetables, milk, groceries, and medicines and are 45 or older to be vaccinated on a priority basis. An order was issued to all District Collectors and called for bank employees, frontline workers, and media people to be vaccinated first.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren announced the Jharkhand will go into a seven-day lockdown from April 22. It was announced that the lockdown will be imposed to check the spread of COVID-19. The decision to impose the lockdown was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by CM Soren. It was stated that the seven-day lockdown will be observed as “health safety week”.
Union Territory Administrator VP Singh Badnore imposed a lockdown in Chandigarh for April 21. The lockdown was imposed on the occasion of Ram Navami to avoid large gatherings and the spike in daily COVID-19 cases. The one-day lockdown will also be imposed in Mohali, Punjab. Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh announced the lockdown, which was proposed by the Chandigarh administration.
The Chandigarh administration’s plea for a lockdown on Ram Navami was rejected by the Haryana government. Home Minister Anil Vij stated that the state government will not impose any lockdown on Ram Navami. Instead, COVID-19 restrictions would be put in place. Vij stated that they would instead “strictly enforce the restrictions on gatherings in indoor and outdoor spaces”.
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan stated the lockdown will begin at 12 am on April 21 and last till 12 am on April 22. It was stated that only shops with essential items will remain open and all kinds of gatherings were also banned.
