Cipla Gets A Nod To Import Moderna Vaccine: American COVID-19 vaccine Moderna has been granted permission for restricted use in India. Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog announced that the vaccine has been granted permission.

Dr Paul further added that there are now four COVID-19 vaccines Covaxin, Covishield, SputnikV and Moderna, and the deal on Pfizer will be closed soon as well. Pharmaceutical company Cipla has been cleared to import the vaccine to India for restricted emergency use.

US Drug Regulator Adds Heart Inflammation Risk Warning To Pfizer, Moderna Vaccines

Recently, the drug regulator of the United States has added a warning to the fact sheets that accompany the COVID-19 vaccine shots of Moderna and Pfizer. The warning was added to indicate a risk of heart inflammation after its use. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the warnings are added to suggest the increased risk of myocarditis (inflammation of the heart muscle) and pericarditis (swelling and irritation of the tissue around the heart) after the second dose of the vaccination.

Moderna, Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccines Work Better In Men: Study

In a recent study done on the role of sex in the efficiency of the vaccines, it was concluded that COVID-19 vaccines made by Moderna and Pfizer work better in men than in women. It was also concluded that this happens due to the use of nanoparticles (a small particle that ranges between 1 to 100 nanometres in size) to deliver the active ingredients in the vaccine in our body.

Researcher Morteza Mahmoudi said that nanoparticles affect patients differently based on the sex of the person.

How Does Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Work?

Moderna, just like Pfizer, is an mRNA vaccine that has fragments of the genetic material of the virus, also known as messenger RNA (Ribonucleic acid). The vaccine works by giving the cells of the body temporary instructions to make the Coronavirus spike protein which is found on the surface of the COVID-19 virus. Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is said to be 90 per cent effective against COVID-19.
