Woke up one morning asking my self... Why do I work so hard for someone else? I spend my whole day toiling for a multinational... If I spend all this energy on my own business...could I actually do better? Earn more? Be a queen of my time? Happier even?
Then one day I set myself free.
Today I look back and feel it was the best decision of my life. I started a business of making people happy. The business of selling surprises.
I am the founder of Any Surprise Any Place – an online surprise maker! I started at the age of 23 leaving everyone around my shocked. Young entrepreneurs were rare and as young as 23 were shocking!
In brief the business is about creating personalised gifts and surprise moments. Personalised gifts would mean we create unique gifts like personalised birthday chronicles, personalised stationary., coffee table books about someone dear in the family etc. And surprise moments like a rose petals path created outside your sweethearts room , a guitarist at midnight at your grandparents house to sing them their favorite songs, or just a wonderful romantic dinner organized in a tent by the beach.
A recession proof business, I love what I do and I love the feeling of working hard for my own self. I love the feeling of ownership and the feeling that I am responsible for my own earnings. The harder I work, the more I can make. The decisions I make, right or wrong reflect on my work and that’s the biggest learning for me.
As a woman entrepreneur in diverse south asian country like India, I have seen nothing but acceptance. The journey has been very comfortable. While my seniors have seen much discrimination on the basis of sex, i would say i have been very lucky. At no point in my career as an entrepreneur of 7 years now, have i felt the difference of being a woman, infact I’ve got only encouragement. Getting covered by media on magazine covers as the young business CEO was my moments of pride.
