Hyderabad-based Ruthvika Gadde Shivani on Sunday clinched the women's singles title at the Russian Open Grand Prix 2016, defeating Russian player Evegeniya Kosetskaya 21-10, 21-13. Shivani wrapped up the final match in just 26 minutes.
The Badminton Association of India (BAI) congratulated the fourth-seeded player on Twitter, "Young @RuthvikaS is the women's singles champion at the Russia Open Grand Prix! Many congratulations champ! Well played."
Shivani also belongs to the same academy as PV Sindhu, the Gopichand Academy, and works at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited.
“Great week here in Vladivostok. My first #GP title ever, at the #Russiaopen! Very happy to have this win. Thank you to everyone who supported and believed in me!” she wrote on her Facebook profile yesterday.
