In the bustle of Zoom calls, deadlines, office WhatsApp groups and post-dinner emails, the idea of adding a little spice to our personal lives can sometimes feel like another task on our to-do list. But what if reigniting that spark could actually be fun, imaginative, and bring laughter right back into the bedroom? Cue ‘role-play’: a timeless way to rediscover your partner and yourself with a pinch of excitement and a dash of confidence.
Costume and role-play – for many of us, these words might conjure up an image of someone in a pirate costume, or maybe a nurse’s outfit. And sure, it may seem a bit filmi, or maybe even trashy at first. But role-play is more than just dressing up in American Halloween outfits; it’s about stepping out of your everyday self and into a space of imagination, playfulness, and intimacy.
· The Power Shift: Find your alter-ego
The beauty of role-play lies in the fact that it’s an instant escape from the usual routine. In the boardroom, you might be the one calling the shots. But what if, just for a change, you let someone else take the reins? Try a little role reversal! The idea of role-play is to let go of control, even for a few hours. It can truly be liberating to not have to continue playing the same role you have been playing at office and home, albeit for a few hours, and it can also help deepen that connection with your partner.
· Decide what you want to role-play
If you and your partner are good at improvising, you could come up with characters on the spot and go with the flow. However, you should know that it is totally alright to think about and decide with your partner what kind of alter-egos both of you want to don.
One option is to base this on what really gets both of you going. Think about what your fantasies have been about or simply turn to the kind of movies or porn that turns you on. Whether it is a masseuse-client scenario or a stranger-in-a-bar scenario; we aren’t here to judge. Take a call on what truly gets both of you going, else it will just seem awkward and forced and could end up being dissatisfying.
· Get Creative with Your Outfits
If you're thinking, “I don’t have time to go to Maganlal Dresswala”, you’re not alone! Sometimes, a borrowed shirt and a mysterious glance can go a long way. A hat, scarf, or even a favourite dupatta can work wonders. The key is to make it light-hearted and pressure-free. A masseuse just needs a white shirt and linen pants, while the client just needs a robe.
Simple Accessories to Spark Playfulness
A simple prop here or there can be just what you need to add a bit more spice. Love Depot’s Quickie Cuffs, for example, offer a silicone twist on traditional handcuffs. Don’t let the word ‘handcuffs’ daunt you – the quickie cuffs are meant to be a soft restraint which can allow you both to let your guard down, instilling a unique sense of trust and letting you focus on the moment. Since they’re silicone, they’re easy to get out of by yourself and are as comfortable as can be!
Change of location
Step out of your comfort zone a little bit and shift the action to another location. A bar where you pretend to be strangers, meeting for the first time, is a great option for you to start with. If you do this in a hotel bar, then the action could very easily move to a room in that very hotel. This not only removes you from your daily routine at home, but also helps keep the game going for longer. After all, who wants to be reminded of the clothes that need to be washed or electricity bill that needs to be paid when you’re in the mood to spice things up?
· In conclusion, a little imagination goes a long way, and there’s no “right” or “wrong” in intimacy – just your personal flavour and preference. Role-plays are fun, light ways to add depth, laughter, and bonding, so go on – let the CEO (or secret agent or stranger in a bar) in you try something new.
