Pouchain received a letter from a court four years ago that declared she was dead. It also mentioned that her family had to pay the money she had owed during her lifetime.

A former employee of Pouchain's cleaning business reportedly launched a complicated legal procedure following which the error arose. Although Pouchain's family assumed that the error could have been corrected easily initially, the four-year struggle of proving her alive status has been dreadful.

Who Is Jeanne Pouchain?

Officially declared dead by a French court in 2017, Pouchain has been trying for the past few years to prove to officialdom that she is in fact very much alive. She also told them that the experience has been devastating.

Pouchain is a 59-year-old French woman from a small village near Lyon, in south-east France who is currently unable to work and afraid to leave her house because she had no valid ID or social security number. Reportedly, she is now living as a recluse owing to the mentioned reasons.

While speaking to Reuters, Pouchain said, "My life, well, it's nothing. I feel I'm of no use. And this is hard".

Puochain lives in a small village with her husband Pierre-Jean. According to a report by Zee News, Pouchain dreams of simply being able to enjoy life again, at home, with her husband.

She hoping for a better life after a judge officially recognises that she is not dead and should never have been considered dead. Pouchain has drawn up a list of what she wants to do when that happens. Reportedly, the process might still take months howsoever.

Currently not able to access health aids owing to the lack of documents, Pouchain added that she will get a health check. She said, "I would so love to be able to bite into an apple ... I would love to have teeth. I would be so happy, even if they were to give me two dentures, I would be happy to have teeth."
