Tarun Tahiliani Statement: Dr Tanaya Narendra recently shared a few pictures from her wedding day and wrote about how people pressured her to lose weight.
She called out her family friends who would ask her if she was dieting before her big day and also accused fashion designer Tarun Tahiliani Ambawatta store of body-shaming her.
In her Instagram post, the gynaecologist and social media influencer wrote, "Bridal stores would body shame (looking at you, Ambawatta @taruntahiliani {yeah, that was a massive shame, because I’d wanted to wear a Tarun T to my wedding since I was 12. Never going there again."
She also wrote about "big designers being afraid of big boobs". Within two days of posting, Dr Narendra's pictures have garnered over 1,68,142 likes. Many social media users commented on her post with their own experiences of being body-shamed before their wedding.
The post also caught designer Tarun Tahiliani's attention who later published his pubic statement.
"Shaming has never been a word in our vocabulary. The pandemic put us in a situation where our stores did not carry a size 16 (due to limited stock). Neither can we replicate a couture piece in three weeks because of the exceptional quality standards that we have set for ourselves. Instead of misleading a customer about how long it would take to customise a product, we choose to tell them it would not happen in the timeline they require. It cannot be fat/body-shaming," the statement read.
Tahiliani in his statement added that if the communication of stock unavailability and customisation made any client not welcome "then we are truly sorry because that is not and will never be the intent. "
The statement also claimed that the designer's team tried to reach out to Dr Tanaya Narendra in connection with her post on Instagram but they received no response from her. Tahiliani said that his brand has "celebrated beauty that stems from diversity and inclusivity in all its form" and that it is saddening for the brand to hear opposite things being said about it.
