The new teaser showed Simone Ashley's character Kate Sharma taking the lead in the new season and Lady Whistledown back in action. As per the official synopsis released by the makers, the new season will focus on Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey)  and his love life. Two new characters Simone Ashley and Charithra Chandran have been welcomed to the new season as sisters, Kate and Edwina Sharma respectively.

Edwina and Anthony start courting each other but Kate realises Anthony's real intentions and tries to stop the union. Then Kate and Anthony face each other and something romantic grows. The new plot looks promises because the character of Anthony was left at a sad note in the last season and by Kate's entry, he might get lucky in love like his sister Daphne ( played by Phoebe Dynevor). However, it is difficult to say if Kate-Anthony will end up being the Simon-Daphne of the show.

No Regé-Jean Page In Bridgerton Season 2, Here's Why

As the series is adopted by a book series by author Julia Quinn, the makers have decided to stick to the same pattern followed in the series. The first season was based on the first book The Duke and I and the second one will be based on the book titled The Viscount Who Loved Me. All the books in the series focus on love stories of different members of the Bridgerton family. The first season was about Daphne and Simon, the second one will be about Anthony and Kate.

Knowing this, the actor Regé-Jean Page (who played Simon in Season 1) left the show. In his media interviews, he said, "I didn't want to put them in an awkward situation where they had to kick me out." He added, "The universe has expanded, so I'm no longer in it" Since the second season will not be focused on Simon, Page took his leave from the show. The producer Shonda Rhimes also respected his decision and called it a smart step.

The same was made public by the makers with the Season 2 announcement. Fans from all over the world expressed disagreement with the makers on social media timelines and demanded the actor's role to be reinstated. Page's performance in the first season is the reason why fans were upset by the news of him leaving. Of course his looks helped his performance and made him be seen as Simon, the Duke of Hastings, to the audience. His tender mannerisms, his principles, loyalty, strength and his love for Daphne, they all made the character of Simon.
