Two Puducherry students drew inspiration from the Hollywood blockbuster Avatar to create figurines. Santosh and Navaneethakrishnan from Puducherry's Seliamedu Government Higher Secondary School got inspired by the lead characters Neyitri, Jake Sully and the Great Leonopteryz and turned their love for the James Cameron hit character into a figurine.
It took them a week to create the figures imitating the original characters of the sci-fi film. They were created entirely from natural waste material such as coconut shells, Mandara leaves and palm leaves.
Puducherry Students Make Avatar Figurines From Waste
Seliamedu has been witness to this art change brought about by their government school art teacher, V Umapathy. He is known for his efforts to make beautiful crafts out of biodegradable materials like bamboo, coconut husks, hay, straw, dried leaves, seeds, roots, branches, vegetable waste, and so on, which are inexpensive and usually discarded. According to The Better India, he endorses sustainability in his creations, leaving an everlasting impact, especially on his students.
Directed by James Cameron, Avatar: The Way of Water has opened to a record of Rs 41 crore across India. The movie stars Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Joel David Moore, CCH Ponder, Edie Falco, Jemaine Clement and Kate Winslet.
The film's Rs 41-crore opening in India leaves behind other Hollywood blockbusters like 'Avengers: Infinity War', 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' and 'Spider-Man: No Way Home'.
Avatar 2 was released in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam on December 16. Most of the theatres in Tamil Nadu are screening the movie as early as 4 am.
