Questions regarding the funeral arrangements and which members of the royal family will be attending quickly arose.
It is currently unknown whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle respectively will be able to attend the funeral due to the travel restrictions. It is illegal to travel abroad from the United Kingdoms for holidays. But in England, a person needs to have a permitted reason to travel, along with a declaration form.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to the late Prince Philip on their Archewell website. A source close to the royal family told DailyMail that Prince Harry will “do his utmost” to return to the UK. The source added that “Meghan is obviously pregnant so she will need to take advice from her doctors about whether it is safe for her to travel, but I think Harry will definitely go.”
The United Kingdom is currently in a national lockdown until June 21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, thus it is assumed that the health crisis guidelines will affect the funeral. The official guidelines state that a maximum of 30 people can attend funerals and must practice social distancing.
