Mafia Queens of Mumbai: Stories of women from the ganglands is a non-fiction crime novel that centres around 13 stories about women and their involvement in criminal activities in Mumbai.

Written by author and former journalist Hussain Zaidi, it delves into the lives of women involved in the Underworld.

  1. While the novel was written by Hussain Zaidi, it features original research by the reporter Jane Borges. She is also credited as an author.
  2. Jane Borges is a Senior Sub-Editor on the news desk of The Asian Age, Mumbai bureau.
  3. According to a review by Zara Murao of Hindustan Times, the stories are pieced together from official documents, case reports, and anecdotes from the subject’s family and acquaintances. ‘
  4. Gangubai Kathiawadi in an upcoming film is based on the chapter focusing on her. The film starring Alia Bhatt as Gangubai Kathiwadi is set to release this year. It will be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
  5. Vishal Bhardwaj, a director, screenwriter, producer, and singer wrote the foreword for the novel. He mentioned in the foreword that he believed that, “The stories about the lives of gangsters are much more fascinating to share than that of saints.”
  6. The audiobook and podcast service Audible has an audiobook version of the Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Actors Radhika Apte, Kalki Koechlin, and Rajkummar Rao provide their voice for the audiobook.
  7. A suit seeking injunction against the authors of Mafia Queens of India and the producers of Gangubai Kathiawadi was dismissed by the Mumbai Court.
  8. The permanent injunction aimed to restrain the authors from publishing, selling or creating third party rights on their novels.
  9. The suit also sought to restrain Bhansali Productions from producing, directing or airing the promo of any film based on Mafia Queens of Mumbai.
