Most people use traditional invitations to announce marriage. A couple from Tamil Nadu chose to take an unconventional route with an Instagram wedding billboard. Put up on the road in out and proud display, a starkly coloured pink banner that resembles the interface of the photo-sharing app declared a man and woman had tied the knot.
A photo of the marriage announcement, posted and now viral on Reddit, dates the event to February 20. The poster, rather creatively made, reads in the place where an Instagram bio is typically located: "There is no more lovely, friendly and charming relationship, communion or company than a good marriage." Of course, there are emojis too!
Besides what appears to be the location of the wedding affair in Trichy, multiple photos of the couple on the 'Instagram feed' are also flaunted on the banner. Curiously, a few men and a dog have been given screen space too through icons resembling the app's 'highlights' feature but their relevance is not clear. Best friends, maybe?

Reddit user u/knivef, who shared a snap of the poster, said it was something they saw Sunday. The post prompted a string of comments from other users with a variety of reactions, from expressing delight at the idea to recounting their own similar encounters.
Apparently, this trend is rather common in southern parts of India.
"This is something I used to see only when we traveled to Tamil Nadu. Now for the last few years, I've been seeing this trend here in Kerala too," one user commented. "Never let this flexi culture die. All we need is a startup focusing on eco posters," another wrote. "Weird flexes for marriages will never go out of fashion in Tamil Nadu lol," one wrote.

Since this is the internet, the dog, naturally, did not go missed.
"Love that Jake Mani the dog is included," one comment pointed out. "Why has the guy changed his kurta/shirt so many times while the lady is still in the same saree?" another observant user pointed out, referring to the 'feed' pictures, many of which showed the woman in a pink saree and the man in different kurtas.
"Wow, let's go eat the wedding food, who's coming with me," one especially shrewd comment read.
But perhaps this makes sense. After all, what else could the reason be for the couple to flash their location so forthrightly on a public, citywide invite?
Unfortunately, if the date on the poster is indeed that of the wedding, then one can best believe the party's over.
