Who is the woman with longest fingernails? Ayanna Williams, a woman from Texas, USA was, until very recently, the owner of the world's longest nails. Earlier this week, she snipped off the growth she had cultivated over 28 years, having begun her enterprise in the 1990s and maintained it through until April 2021. Upon reaching a record length of 24 feet and 0.7 inches, Williams has said goodbye to her magnificent nails.
As per official Guinness reports, Williams' fingernails were cut using an electric rotary tool. "I’ve been growing my nails for a few decades now. I’m so, so ready for a new life. I know I’m going to miss them, but it’s just about that time – it’s time for them to go," she was quoted saying, marking the momentous event.
Her snipped talons will reportedly be displayed at Ripley's museum in Orlando, Florida.
Woman With Longest Fingernails Bids Goodbye To Her Prized Possession
Letting something precious one has tended to for years go is bound to be an emotional experience. So it was for Williams too, but the former record-holder was simultaneously washed over by relief too. "I'm so, so ready for a new life. I know I'm going to miss them, but it's just about that time – it's time for them to go. I'm just about tired of them so it's time for them to go," she said.
"With or without my nails, I will still be the queen. My nails don't make me, I make my nails!" says former record-holding woman with longest nails
Records say Williams' nails took up time worth 20 hours and paint worth almost four bottles to be completely manicured. She had to be "very, very careful" with her movements lest she "hurt" herself with her nails "or break them." But none of that now! She's now looking forward to enjoying the more quotidian joys of life, such as folding bed sheets and doing dishes.
The crown for the woman with longest fingernails currently sits on the hands of Lee Redmond, another American woman, whose journey began in 1979 and has reaped lengths reaching up to 28 feet and 4.5 inches.
