SSLC exams: Karnataka state's Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination are to be held as the pre-decided schedule, the state's Primary and Secondary Education Minister said on Tuesday.
The board exams for class 10 are going to held from June 21 to July 5.
The announcement came after almost all state board exams in India have been cancelled for class 10 students. All-India boards such as the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) and IB have also cancelled exams for class 10 students this year due to the pandemic.
The education minister of Karnataka also said that that the students of class 1 to 9 will be promoted after a continuous and comprehensive evaluation program. He said, "Students (of classes 1 to 9) must not be asked to physically attend the examinations. The evaluation and the result announcement must be a tool, only for assessing the learning capabilities of the children."
He added that unachieved learning outcomes will be addressed as part of the bridge course during the commencement of the next academic year. As per the state government directive, schools will have to complete the evaluation process and publish outcomes by April 30. The state also announced that summer vacation will start on May 1.
The Primary and Secondary Education Department said that students from Classes to 8 will be allowed for summer vacation from May 1 to June 14. The next academic year for them will start on June 15. Suresh Kumar clarified, "This includes primary schools offering classes for classes 7 and 8 as well."
The students promoted to class 9 and 10 this year (2021-2022) will get a summer vacation from May 1 to July 14, “The academic year 2021-22 will commence for high schools from July 15,” he announced. Along with students, high school teachers will also be sent given summer holidays from June 15 to July 14. Minister Suresh Kumar after making these announcements clarified that the decisions are “subjected to revision as per the directions of the State Government from time to time as per Covid-19 protocols.”
