The Indian Institute Of Technology in Bombay is the best institute of India according to the Quacquarelli Symonds World Ranking of the year 2021. Although none of them could get featured in the top 100 list.

The top five institutes in the QS ranking belong to the USA with MIT grabbing the first rank. Moreover, the University of Singapore topped among all the universities in Asia. The eight Indian institutes that got featured in top 500 ranks include IIT Bombay with 172nd rank which is highest among all the Indian institutes. Second is IISc Bangalore with the rank 185 and is followed by IIT-Delhi at 193. IIT Madras ranked 275, IIT Kharagpur was at 314th rank and IIT Kanpur stood at 350th rank. IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati ranked 387 and 470 respectively.
Renowned Universities of India, Delhi University and Jadhavpur University stood between 500-700 ranks.
The QS ranking report has claimed that even though the USA and UK colleges dominated the list of top world institutes, Asian universities especially in India might outrank them as they are nurturing employable graduates. IIT-Delhi has been named as the most employable institute in India.
The report also claimed that Indian institutes have performed well in terms of research quality. IISc has been named as the best research institute in India. It has scored 100 in the citation per faculty indicator.
However, the report stated, India lags behind in increasing academic standing, teaching capacity and internationalisation. The global universities are comparatively performing better in “enhancing their educational offerings” which is why Indian institutes have seen a fall in their rankings this year.
“To regain lost ground, Indian higher education must find ways of increasing teaching capacity, and of attracting more talented students and faculty across the world to study in India. There is plenty of potential, and there are pockets of excellence, within the Indian system,” Ben Sowter of QS said.
