Karnataka's primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar made an announcement regarding the postponement of class 10 or the SSLC exam. This decision was made due to the sudden rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state.

SSLC exam was supposed to begin on June 21
The SSLC exam was supposed to start on June 21. However, the minister said that the schedule for the examination will be released, as soon as the COVID-19 situation in the state improves.
"SSLC exam slated to begin from June 21 has been postponed in view of the surge in Covid 19 cases. The revised schedule will be decided after the second wave dies," said S Suresh Kumar.
The Karnataka government had earlier deferred the second Pre University Exam (PUC) or class 12 final exams. They had also promoted the first-year students. On Wednesday, the Karnataka Common Entrance Test (KCET), which is held for securing admission into engineering was also postponed. This exam was supposed to be conducted on July 7 and 8, 2021, but will now be held on August 28 and 29 this year.
Schools in Karnataka are now closed, so students are having their summer vacations at moment. The vacations will continue till June 14, and the new academic year will commence from June 15 onwards.
In the meantime, high school teachers have been instructed to hold revision classes for the students who will be appearing for the SSLC exam. Vacations for these teachers will continue till May 31.
Amidst the rising number of COVID-19 cases, many state boards across the country have decided to either cancel or postpone the board exams. Besides these exams, several competitive exams have also been deferred.
UPTET exam postponed
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government announced the postponement of the Uttar Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (UPTET) 2021 exam. The state's COVID-19 situation has forced the government to take this action.
