JEE Mains Exam May 2021: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday that the preliminary exams of the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) which were supposed to take place in May this year have been postponed because of the growing number of coronavirus cases.
The Education Minister said, "Looking at the present situation of COVID-19 and keeping students safety in mind, JEE (Main) - May 2021 session has been postponed. Students are advised to keep visiting the official website of NTA for further updates." The May session of the preliminary exam was scheduled for May 24,25,26 and 28. This came after the April session for the same exam was postponed, they were supposed to take place between April 27 to 30.
The testing agency in its notice said that the rescheduling of both the April and May session will be done subsequently and the advice the students to keep checking the official website for further updates. The Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' took to Twitter to announce that the registration of the May session will also take place at a later date. The NTA organised the Main exams of JEE in four phases this year. Two of the phases were completed in February and March this year. A total number of 6,20,978 and 5,56,248 candidates appeared in both sessions respectively.
The Education Minister had earlier told ANI that he has advised NTA to postpone the remaining sessions of JEE main exams for this year. The postponement of JEE Main comes after almost every exam got postponed or cancelled in the country in the wake of the current health crisis brought by the COVID-19 pandemic. The board exams of CBSE, ICSE, IB and almost all state were postponed/cancelled.
The current case count of India is at 2,02,82,833 with 2,22,408 death due to the virus. In the last 24 hours, the country reported 3,57,229 fresh cases of coronavirus and 3,449 died.
