Delhi schools reopen for class 9 and 11: Delhi schools are going to reopen for Class 9 and Class students from February 5, the government announced.
The announcement for the reopening was made by Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia on Friday. He also declared, "Colleges, diploma institutions in Delhi will also reopen from 5 February."
Earlier the Delhi government had allowed all schools in the capital to reopen for Class 10 and Class 12 from January 18 as the students are going to give board examination.
Students can attend schools only after their parents approve of it. Physical attendance has not been made compulsory by the government, schools are to follow all COVID-19 guidelines, the official order said.
"In order to conduct activities pertaining to pre-board preparations and practical work, the head of government, aided and unaided recognised schools may call students of Classes 10 and 12 only to school with effect from January 18, 2021," a senior official at the Directorate of Education (DoE) had said.
However, he also added that a child can only be called to school with the consent of parents and after taking all precautions in the wake of the pandemic.
Since sending children to school is optional, attendance will not be taken but an official record of students coming to school will be maintained.
Schools in Delhi have been shut since March 2020 to prevent infections of coronavirus. Several states have partially opened the schools such as Gujarat that reopened schools in the state for CLass 9 and 11 after the Class 10 and 12 were allowed to attend school campus earlier. Since March last year, students have been taking online classes.
