• Wrestler Family Saga Dangal To Be Screened In Parliament

Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal is still making a lot moolah, while clearly becoming one of Disney’s biggest overseas successes. Now this film, based on a real life wrestler family, will be specially screened for members of Parliament today in order to make the lawmakers aware of women’s empowerment while dishing out some entertainment.

The whole idea of having a movie hour, especially in the Lok Sabha, was Speaker Sumita Mahajan’s initiative. The screening time is set in the evening after the session gets over in Parliament’s Balayogi auditorium.

“It is my privilege to inform you that the Speaker has desired that popular Hindi Film ‘Dangal’ be screened for the Members of both Houses on Thursday, March 23 at 1830 hrs. I would be grateful if you could kindly make it convenient to grace the occasion along with your spouse,” said a communique by Secretary General of Lok Sabha, Anoop Mishra, NDTV reported.

The much appreciated screen-time is organised by the Welfare department of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.

Real empowerment comes with strong and impactful message of depicting gender equality through films and could also teach the MPs about women’s dignity and rights. And, what could be better than a film that is based on sportswomanship in India and how the women emerge champions of their own destiny. “The objective is to send across the message of women’s empowerment so that the lawmakers can promote it in their respective constituencies,” said a senior official from the department.

Let’s hope Dangal motivates all the MPs present at Parliament today.
