Women's Yoga Pants Parade To Protest Sexism

In a letter to The Barrington Times in Rhode Island, USA, Alan Sorrentino complained about the new fashion of women wearing yoga pants. The Guardian quoted his letter that read, “The absolute worst thing to ever happen in women's fashion is the recent development of yoga pants as daily wear outside the yoga studio. Not since the mini-skirt has there been something worn by so many women who should never have it on in the first place. From casual to formal, weddings, funerals, shopping, and even for the workplace, yoga pants are everywhere on women of all ages, usually paired with a blousy top and a pony tail hairdo. What a disaster!”

Now one does not have to guess that this was not taken well by the women and they responded to his "complaint" with a #YogaPantsParade where around 400 people joined this peaceful protest that took place in Alan Sorrentino's neighbourhood.

While the protesters called it a peace march, Alan reportedly said he had been receiving death threats and requested the marchers to stay clear of his house. He says that the letter was meant to be a humourous piece, what with all the serious election talk around the nation.

The protesters said that this march was not against Alan Sorrentino per se, but the prevalent misogyny and sexism in society. A revolution is indeed ignited by one comment that portrays the general stereotype that needs to be challenged and changed. While we do understand the sentiment of a protest that takes place to deform misogyny, is giving death threats to an individual approved? Is violence an answer to correct the wrongs of society? Is this the reason feminism faces backlash? You be the judge.
