How Zainika Jagasia Is Breaking Barriers As A Down Syndrome Model

Here's her story:

"Down syndrome has been a part of my life from the very beginning, leading me into a world of therapies – physical, speech, occupational, and language – starting as early as one month old. Childhood was devoid of playtime, filled instead with the consistency of school and immediate therapy sessions, a routine I had to push through.

My family has been my unwavering support system. My mom, managing therapies and homework, instilled the importance of perseverance. My dad’s unconditional love and my sister treating me like any other kid fueled my belief that I could overcome anything.

During the pandemic, the school moved online, and an unexpected passion emerged – baking. Despite initial reluctance, my sister pushed me to learn, starting with cookies. Over time, I mastered the art, and we ventured into creating our brand, “homebred by G&Z,” merging our names, marking the beginning of a journey filled with challenges and slow acceptance.

Becoming a fashion influencer wasn’t planned; it happened on a suggestion. The magical experience of my first photoshoot, supported by an enthusiastic team, marked the start of a journey that I cherish. Similarly, my transformation into a fitness enthusiast was initiated by my sister, pushing me to change my diet and join the gym. The mental and physical benefits of exercise soon made it a passion.

As for what’s next, I’m focusing on modelling and content creation with a dream of becoming the face of Gucci. However, my ever-changing passions might lead me towards singing, policing, or dancing – whatever strikes a chord after watching a new show.

I’m not perfect at everything yet, but I’m always working on improving myself. I want to inspire everyone to work hard and let the process take time if it has. I’m going to continue to pave my way through the fashion industry until I reach the level I want to be at.

For the younger generation aspiring for more, I advocate for positivity, self-acceptance, and resilience. It’s okay to seek help, acknowledge insecurities, and experience moments of doubt, but it’s crucial to bounce back, work hard, and persevere on the path to success."
