A woman has accused a co-founder of a San Francisco technology company, Christian Lanng, of making her a "sex slave" at work. The woman was formerly an assistant to Lanng. She was made to sign an inappropriate contract in which she was asked to be a slave to her boss. Under the garb of the contract, she was subjected to inappropriate and hurtful sexual misconduct. She was beaten up to the extent of bleeding. Although the co-founder was fired by the software company, Tradeshift, earlier this year, the charges still haven't met justice.

The woman, named as Jane Doe in court documents, alleged that she was subjected to years of rape and abuse. As per the lawsuit, the woman had to suffer under misconduct like being urinated on and penetrated with foreign objects and other means. She was made to sign a nine-page "slave contract" which mentioned gross sexual behaviour and control over the woman as a part of her job. The contract further added, "Whenever she sees her master in private for the first time, she is to kneel and ask if there is anything she can do for him."

Details of the contract

The contract that referred Lanng as "master" and the woman as "slave" allowed Lanng to inflict punishment on the woman whether earned or not. It was the "master's responsibility" to not inflict any permanent injury on the woman or to kill her. Furthermore, the contract said that the woman must accept every "punishment" from her "master" without being angry, sullen or frustrated with her master. The contract required the woman to dress in a "proper, feminine way" and maintain a weight between 130 and 155 pounds.

The contract also said, "The slave also agrees that once entered into the Slavery Contract, their body belongs to their master to be used as seen fit within the guidelines defined herein. All of the slave's possessions likewise belong to the master, including all assets, finances, online accounts and material goods, to do with as they see fit."

The woman was asked to maintain a diary recording her subjugation and enslavement. She was also supposed to submit a weekly spreadsheet detailing her progress.

The woman said that she initially agreed to "always be sexually available for her master when he needs sex and never to refuse him sex even when not wearing the [day] collar." She also agreed to being beaten with a cane if she failed to make the required entries.

Why the woman agreed to the contract

However, she claims that her agreement was subject to her need for the job. She signed the contract because she "loved her job, was accomplishing important work in her new role and did not want to lose the opportunity to work a Tradeshift."

Moreover, when the woman reported to the Human Resources Department regarding the slave agreement, she was terminated from the job in 2020. The lawsuit implicates the company, Tradeshift, too. However, a representative of the company denied the accusations levied against the company. They referred to the termination of Lanng earlier this year. As per reports, he was fired for "gross misconduct on multiple grounds" and "serious allegations of sexual assault and harassment".
