Since its Independence, the women in India have progressed at a much faster rate than women in many other countries. Women like Zia Mody, Simon Tata and Waheeda Rehman, amongst others have constantly risen above all the standards that were previously set for women in India. Even today, women in all fields in the country have proved to be great achievers and have been walking shoulder to shoulder with men. Women in the business sector are no less.

 

Top women like Chanda Kochhar and Naina Lal Kidwai have been making headlines since their appointment for heading some of the top organizations in the country. However, there are many more out there, who are an inspiration to thousands of women across the country.

Business Insider  lists some of the top women in business sector in India.

 

CHANDA KOCHHAR

The MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, Kochhar joined the organization in 1984 and has worked her way up to this position. A Padma Bhushan recipient, she has also featured in Fortune’s ‘Most Powerful Women in Business’ list.

 

NAINA LAL KIDWAI

Apart from being the first Indian women to graduate from the Harvard Business School, she became the first Indian woman to reach a top spot in a foreign bank. She is also a Padma Shree recipient.

CHITRA RAMAKRISHNA

The CEO and MD of National Stock Exchange, she is credited with making NSE, one of the top 3 exchanges in index and stock derivatives. Ramakrishna also worked for IDBI and SEBI and has been involved with the NSE since its inception in the 1990’s.

 

ZIA MODY

A founder of AZB & Partners, Zia Mody needs no introduction. She was one of the first most successful female lawyers in India. She is a Cambridge University and a Harvard Business School alumna and is currently on the boards of FICCI and SEBI.

KIRTHIGA REDDY

The first Facebook employee to be hired in India, Reddy is responsible for making India the third largest population for Facebook. She previously worked for other tech giants like Motorola and Silicon Graphics in the US.
