The News Minute run by Dhanya Rajendran, Chitra SD & Vignesh Vellore has raised funding from Raghav Bahl's Quintillion Media. The South India based website is trying to expand in the region with a stronger team and more robust technology set up.

The website won the 'Best News Website' award at the Digital Women Awards empowered by SheThePeople.TV in the presence of DIPP Secretary Amitabh Kant, Axis Bank's MD Rajiv Anand and Google's India and South East Asia head Rajan Anandan.

"With the funding, we hope to enhance our tech and User Interface." Dhanya Rajendran, CoFounder of The News Minute said to SheThePeople.TV. "But primarily, TNM believes in good old traditional journalism. So one of our main interests will be to increase our reporting strength and also venture into publishing in vernacular languages."

Bangalore based The News Minute was started in 2014 by journalists Chitra Subramaniam (best known for her reporting on Bofors for The Hindu) and Dhanya Rajendran (ex Times Now), and Vignesh Vellore, formerly with HR in a software firm. It's also planning to use the infused capital to expand in vernacular languages.

With this investment, Quintillion's Ritu Kapur will join the board of the company. Kapur is very bullish on social, local and mobile content. In an earlier interview with SheThePeople.TV, Kapur emphasised the need for good content and said "You don’t need huge start up investments, all you need is an idea that  has an audience/ market and you can set up your site, your social media space overnight and get going.  A good idea/ product travels so  fast on the net through the sharing via friends’ circle. You don’t need massive advertising budgets. Your audience  is so within reach, if what you have on offer is exciting."
