The Book Club Mumbai

Date: 19th July, Time: 5:30 pm

Address: The Barking Deer, Mathuradas Mill Compound, Senapati Bapat Marg, Lower Parel West, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400013

We, at SheThePeople, have always been enthusiastic proponents of the need to develop and encourage a reading culture, and a community that encourages reading for pleasure as well as learning. To further this objective, we're delighted to launch the SheThePeople Book Club, where we hope to bring together people from diverse backgrounds and interests, bound together by their love for books and reading.

Joining us for the Session on 19th July 5:30 pm is Author Sonya Dutta Choudhury.  Sonya did her MBA at IIM Calcutta. She started her career as a banker & then international marketing but got revised and edited into writing. She has been running marathons and a Book Club in Mumbai for the last 15 years. Reading led to writing - for magazines like Forbes and newspapers like The Times of India, The Hindu and for Mint.

In Career Rules, Sonya Dutta Choudhury gives a flavourful peek into the daily grind of contemporary professions through conversations with some of their most noteworthy practitioners - Sanjeev Kapoor in food and hospitality; Naina Lal Kidwai in banking and finance; Quikr's Pranay Chulet in entrepreneurship; Zia Mody in law; Imtiaz Ali in film-making and a whole host of others - and also, importantly, to those working in junior and mid-level profiles. Insightful, full of mentorly advice and career 'hacks', this book is the kind of guided tour in the world of careers that every young graduate deserves. It is, in essence, a helpful nudge towards the life you want.

The SheThePeople Book Club will sift through the many books that get published every month and put together their recommendations for the books of the month. Through online and offline events with readers and authors, we hope to put forward the most anticipated books, as well as books that perhaps don't get the kind of visibility they should. As the organisers of Women Writer's Fests across India, we are committed to bringing forth the voices of women writers, the various issues they deal with in their work and we hope to be an interface between writers and readers. Welcome aboard, and here's to a great journey together through the wonderful world of books.
