America's ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley resigns

Nikki Haley, America's envoy to the UN is set to leave the Donald Trump led government by end of the year.

Trump said Haley told him six months ago she wanted a break after spending two years in the post. “She’s done a fantastic job and we’ve done a fantastic job together."

She also clarified she had no ambitions to run for President in 2020. “No, I am not running in 2020,” the former South Carolina governor told reporters in the Oval Office. She would campaign for Trump, she added.

Trump called Haley a woman "who has wielded enormous power at the United Nations, for making the UN ambassador a "more glamorous position."

Haley's resignation came as a surprise to most in the Trump cabinet. Some reports also said there was an investigation underway on Haley's use of free flights on private jets and that may have something to do with her leaving.

During her appointment announcement in January 2017 Donald Trump had said, “She has a proven track record of bringing people together regardless of background or party affiliation to move critical policies forward for the betterment of her state and our country. She is also a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals. She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage.”

Nikki Haley was the first woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina at a young age of 44. This makes her the youngest current governor in the United States.

Nikki is originally from India as she was born as Nimrata Randhawa in a Sikh family. She then moved to Bamberg, South Carolina at an early age. Nikki was her pet name and it stuck with her. She is married and has a daughter named Rena and a son named Nalin. He husband’s name is Michael.
