Radhika Apte has often raised her voice to speak against the beauty standards and pressures that exist in Bollywood. Being a part of the commercial industry, she has often shared her experiences when she was told she lacked the physical features to play a certain role and was asked to go under the knife. In a recent interview, she reportedly talked about how her decision to not undergo surgery has caused her to lose roles to younger or younger-looking actors. However, she thinks that awareness regarding these harsh beauty standards is increasing in the industry, slowly but surely.

Talking about the importance of roles in an actor's career, she reportedly said, "There’s truth to this, but it becomes sensationalised and it changes its tonality. Age is a factor and you cannot deny the fact that people want younger actresses in a bigger commercial films; it’s just a fact, a younger or conventional image that they want. There have been days where you are told that ‘yeah you don’t have xyz’ and we need xyz. You can see the amount of surgeries people do. There is an image that we are chasing and not just in India, across the globe, which a lot of women are fighting against it"

Radhika Apte had earlier talked about losing roles and combating age and despite that, decided to not undergo any surgery while some of her colleagues had facial and body corrections. She thinks that with changing times, the perception is also being changed. There are brands and companies promoting people of different shapes, ages, sizes and colours which is an important step towards eradicating existing toxic stereotypes. According to her, age is a vulnerable issue for many people and that's why they succumb to surgeries and corrections when they are judged for their features.

Radhika Apte will next be seen in Netflix's upcoming thriller neo-noir film Monica O My Darling starring Rajkummar Rao and Huma Qureshi.
