It’s been 21 years since she launched her first label, AND. She started out with a 300 sq ft store and today has 475 stores across the country.
Her company And Designs India Limited (Now House of Anita Dongre) was born in 1995.
House of Anita Dongre boasts of diverse brands such as AND, Global Desi, Anita Dongre and Pinkcity, a handcrafted jade jewelry brand.
The brands are currently available through over 650 points of sale across India, comprising exclusive and multi-brand outlets. Her eponymous labels have enhanced many an award show, global red carpet events, international catwalks and the pages of all the top end fashion glossies.
She recently introduced Grassroot, an eco-friendly brand tributing the handcrafted traditions of India. Collaborating with a network of trusted NGOs and artisans across India, Grassroot is a platform for these artisans to showcase the treasure house of Indian crafts The essence of Anita Dongre Grassroot is to revive, sustain and empower craft and artisans.
2013 was a major year for House of Anita Dongre. Hers was the first fashion house in India to be invested in by General Atlantic, a leading global investment firm.
In the year 2015, And Designs India Limited re-branded themselves as House of Anita Dongre in line with global fashion houses, and all her portfolio of brands are housed under this fashion house.
A go-getter, Anita still believes she has miles to go. We speak with her to find out what drives and inspires her. In conversation with Anjali Kirpalani here is Anita Dongre.
