Wedding bells are round the corner for Rio Olympics medallist Sakshi Malik and her wrestler fiancé Satyawart Kadian as the couple have announced that they are getting married on April 2. Yes, in a couple of days, Sakshi Malik will tie the knot with her long-term boyfriend and recently engaged fellow wrestler.
The 24-year-old wrestler got engaged on October 2016, after coming home with a silver from the Rio podium. She had exchanged rings with fellow wrestler Satyawart at a ceremony at her residence in Rohtak. Sakshi had earlier announced her relationship with Satyawart in the media but hadn’t confirmed about getting hitched at that time.
Now the lovebirds took to Facebook to announce their wedding plans in a post where they are seen holding a slate in their hands which reads “Save the Date 02. 04. 2017” – a clear indication of their marriage date. Cool, isn’t it?
The 22-year-old Satyawart, who happens to be two years younger to Sakshi, trains at his father’s akhada in Rohtak, while Sakshi has been training at Sir Chhotu Ram Stadium Wrestling Academy in the same city. After returning from her Olympic tour, Sakshi always spoken about how much she values Satyawart’s constant support “He is very supportive and thinks of my dreams as his own,” she had said earlier.
Now when the would-be bride and groom have given their nod, their family is set to arrange a lavish wedding in Rohtak. As per reports, Saksh’s bridal attire has been designed by renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi. Invitation cards have already been sent out to personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fellow Rio Olympics medallist PV Sindhu and cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Now that’s called having a wedding in style!
A competitor in the 97kg freestyle category, Satyawart was a bronze medalist (his first) at the 2010 Youth Olympics. He won a silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He was the only Indian wrestler to win a medal at the 2013 World Youth wrestling Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
They fell in love with each other in the wrestling pitches, making it a perfect love story in an akhara. Satyawart has shared a picture with the hashtags #Sakshimalik and #loveforever. We wish the lucky couple a lifetime of happiness together.
