India’s top shuttler Saina Nehwal was centre stage yet again as she became the lone Indian survivor at the Indonesia Open on Thursday. Nehwal demolished local favourite and world no 53 Fitriani Fitriani in straight sets to reach the quarter-finals of the Super Series Premier event at Jakarta.
The opening game saw Sania take a 9-7 lead which she increased quickly to 14-7, and thereafter pocketed the game. In the second game she dominated from the start with a 10-3 lead, and Fitriani could never recover from that. The final score of the match which lasted all of 32 minutes was 21-11, 21-10. The eighth-seeded Indian has won this particular tournament three-times, in 2009, 2010 and 2012, and is likely to either take on world number one Carolina Marin or Akane Yamaguchi to seal a spot in the semi-finals.
