PV Sindhu won the China Open in a decisive game making it a historic win in a country where very few non Chinese have won the individual title. Sindhu picked her first Super Series title and she went about it in a brilliant way. Sindhu was a winner of the first game 21-11, smooth and straight forward. In the second one she struggled but put up a solid fight but in the third, she picked an edge over her opponent after 10 points and didn’t let go.
The seventh seed, Sindhu had a close clash pits but did not reign since bagging the Silver medal at Rio Olympics 2016. On the other hand Yu has reached number nine in rankings very quickly in her career and is seeded eighth in the competition. The last time the two faced off was at the Swiss Open in 2014.
This is the third straight year that an Indian woman has made the China Open singles final. Saina Nehwal won the title in 2014 and finished runner-up in the 2015 edition. Winning a Super Series title is a big achievement for Sindhu since it’s a start in bringing the season back on track for the Indian.
