Yes she is a dedicated runner but motherhood is her priority. Anna Young from Utah pumped milk while on a marathon so she could feed her baby at the finish the line. The mother of a 5 month old participated in a marathon in Salt Lake City, and when mid-marathon she needed to pump breast milk for her daughter, she did not hesitate. She had to slow down a bit and just walk while pumping to avoid losing too much time, but she managed the feat.
A photo was shared by Young on Sunday of herself pumping breast milk on the Occupy Breastfeeding Facebook page.
“I thought it would be a good way to start exercising again and share something I love with my daughter,” Young said to CNN. This was her first half-marathon since giving birth in April. A fierce runner in high school and college, Young had not taken part in any running competition in about five years. Her last year’s plan to race was dropped since she injured her leg in training, so this year’s race was a great opportunity for her to come back again on the race track.
Taking along her daughter in a stroller while training, Young ended up running at a pace of 7:58 minutes per mile and finished in just over an hour and 44 minutes. She had to, after all, her baby was waiting for her at the finishing line.
Since the post has been uploaded on social media, Young has received tons of love and appreciation and has thanked La Leche League and the Occupy Breastfeeding communities for motivating her when she was having trouble breast-feeding her daughter. The post has so far received over 10,000 likes, and the comments section is filled with acknowledgement.
Cheers to your spirit Anna!
