Out To Learn Scooty, Woman Allegedly Dragged And Raped

A 23-year-old woman from Delhi was gang-raped while she was out to learn scooty. She was learning to ride scooty with two friends, a male friend and a female colleague when she was dragged away and gang-raped by three men at an isolated spot in the Tronica city police station area of Ghaziabad. The incident happened on Thursday, November 30, 2023. One of the accused has been arrested following a gunfight.

As per the reports, the accused who has been arrested goes by the name Junaid, a resident of Khanpur in Ghaziabad. Ritesh Tripathi, ACP Loni said that in a gunfight, Junaid was shot in the leg and was arrested. Currently, he is in a hospital getting treatment. 

He further said, "During questioning, he said that on Thursday evening, he saw two women and a man standing in an isolated area in Khanpur. He called over his other friends, dragged one of the two women to the bushes and gang-raped her."

The arrested accused also said that the female friend of the survivor was also targeted. However, the duo friends fled the spot. When the aides of the accused tried to drag the female friend, a vehicle arrived and they backed off. 

Police registered an FIR under IPC section 376D (Gangrape) on Friday, December 1, 2023. 

“Attempts are being made to arrest other four suspects who are absconding,” said the ACP. The scooty was bought by the female friend of the survivor four days before the incident. The duo works at a factory in Ghaziabad. She had called over the male friend to learn to ride the scooty. The role of the survivor's friends is also being examined and further investigation is underway. 

While this is underway, the latest report by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) shows that cybercrime in Delhi nearly doubled in the year 2022. As reported by Hindustan Times, the numbers rose from 45 in 2021 to 685 cases in 2022 as per the report.
