The discovery unfolded when a refrigerator containing two arms and two legs was found floating in a canal on the outskirts of Liege earlier this week, sparking an immediate murder investigation.

As detectives delved deeper into the case, they stumbled upon even more horrifying evidence. The victim's head and torso were discovered discarded in a trash container in a nearby river. Thanks to a distinguishing tattoo on the torso, authorities were able to identify the elderly victim as a woman in her 70s.

Belgian Man Arrested for Murder Of Mother

The perpetrator was taken into custody after being apprehended at a hotel near Brussels's airport just before dawn on Thursday. Shockingly, he was allegedly preparing to board a flight to South Korea when he was arrested, adding an eerie layer of mystery to the unfolding events.

During police questioning, the suspect confessed to the heinous crime, according to Catherine Collignon, a spokeswoman for the Liege prosecutors' office. The investigating judge subsequently ordered his charging and detention as the case continues to unfold.

Early indications from the investigation suggest a possible motive behind the tragic incident. It appears that the suspect had moved back in with his mother following the Covid pandemic, leading to frequent arguments between the two. The tension seems to have escalated to a horrifying extent, resulting in the fatal act that has left the nation in disbelief.

The disturbing revelation came to light when the suspect confided in someone close to him, who subsequently shared the information with the authorities. The speed and efficiency of the response from those who heard the confession undoubtedly played a significant role in bringing the alleged accused to justice swiftly.

The suspect's motivations, as well as any potential history of mental health issues, will likely be scrutinised in an effort to understand the factors that led to this unthinkable tragedy.
