Maintaining the work and family life balance is always the challenge for working moms. And it is to their credit that they try to achieve it, day in and day out. So what do moms do to become ‘supermoms’? We attempt to find out in our mothers day special series.
Meet Subha Chandrasekaran, who is based in Bangalore. After spending 15 years in Citibank, Sudha turned entrepreneur with her own Company called RainKraft Creative Solutions where she utilizes her experience in training, teaching and consulting on subjects like banking, finance, operations, people management and other skills which are useful in the workplace. She tells SheThePeople.TV about her everyday challenges as a working mother.
Why do you think ‘Moms Mean Business at Work’?
Moms at home or work always have a long to-do list! So we are very focused about knocking off items one by one. This makes us really productive at work!
We also want to make sure that we aim for the best for everyone involved. So laser focus on the tasks at hand, pre-planning and scheduling and planning for contingencies!
I think ‘mompreneurs’ should get their family involved as much as they can. The family can be a great source of support and inspiration
How did you manage your start-up and at the same time fulfil your responsibilities as a mother ?
My startup is still young but it’s been an easy transition since my kids have always seen me having a full-time job. They know that work is an important part of my life and they respect that.
That’s also because they see the rest of the family respecting that – my spouse, parents, in-laws, etc. As long as you make time for the family and step back when you want to focus on work, it can be managed.
What is your advice to mothers who are working or starting-up? How should they go about it?
The best part about starting up after a long corporate career is that it is an adventure for the entire family. My daughters had a blast discussing company name options with me, reviewing logo samples and telling me shapes and colours they liked and also being my cheerleader for new work events. I think mompreneurs should get their family involved as much as they can. The family can be a great source of support and inspiration. If they are part of the process they will share your ups and downs and make it less stressful for you.
