Man arrested for making lewd calls to over a hundred women, claims he did it just for 'fun'

The accused purchased SIM cards and then destroyed them after making the calls.

A 38-year-old man in Telangana state, who made lewd phone calls to over 100 women, was recently arrested by the city Central Crime Station on Thursday. Police have arrested the man, later identified as Srigirisetti Sridhar of Mattepally in Nalgonda district of Telangana, for allegedly harassing and abusing a hundred women. When police investigated, Sridhar admitted his crime and said that he spoke to women in vulgar language just for 'fun'.

According to reports, the accused used multiple SIM cards and made those calls on fake names. After each such call, he destroyed the SIM card and switched to another SIM to continue to call and harass the same women. Police said that the accused has been doing this illegal activity for the last one year now and had contacted 35 women in just one month and sent them vulgar text messages as well. Out of fear, many victims stopped using their mobile phones or switched to a new number. Police are now investigating as to how the accused managed to get such a large number of SIM cards.

“Although more than 100 women have been harassed none came forward to complain,” said Kavita, Assistant Commissioner of Police, reported by Sakshi Post. The Assistant commissioner also explained that Sridhar, who works for a construction firm tracked the victims' mobile numbers from websites. He confessed to the crime after he was brought to Hyderabad for questioning.
