The Indian win was led by London Olympic Bronze medallist Saina Nehwal who defeated Fabienne Deprez 21-15, 21-10. Following this, P.V. Sindhu then demolished  Luise Heim 21-7, 21-12 in just 26 minutes which gave India a 2-0 lead. The doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponappa played an impressive match against Linda Efler and Lara Kaepplein, taking home a 14-21, 21-9, 21-8 win in 41 minutes.  Yvonne Li didn’t last very long  in front of Ruthvika Shivani Gadde as the score read 21-5, 21-15, while N. Sikki Reddy and Sindhu trounced Isabel Herttrich and Franziska Volkmann 21-18, 19-21, 22-20 in the second doubles match.

However, it turned out to be another disappointing day for the Indian men's team as they were beaten 2-3 by Hong Kong.  With this, they face an early exit from the tournament.
