Indian female footballers head to Maldives

June 10, 2014. Indian female footballers, Oinam Bembem Devi from Manipur and Lako Phuti Bhutia from Sikkim have been selected by New Radiant SC, Maldives for the upcoming Maldivian football season. Both national players signed up with current Women's Champions on 9th of June.

An official press statement stated “We have added two foreign players to our women's team ahead of their first game in the competition on 9th June. Both, defender Lako and midfielder Bembem, are from India and represent India in their national women’s team”, as reported by Goal.

Bembem made her international debut at the age of fifteen in the Asian Women's Championships. Since then she has represented the country eighteen times and has scored eleven goals. In the year 2013 she was honored as All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) Women’s 2013 Player of the Year. Lako on the other hand is a defender and has gathered eight caps. She also played for the U-9 National team 2012 AFC Qualifiers in Malaysia.

New Radiant SC is scheduled to play the Maldives National Defense Force in the opening tie of the women’s season. The women are to join their team on the third of March.
