• India-Pak women’s cricket series hangs fire

The women’s cricket series between India and Pakistan is feeling the heat of the political tension between the two nations. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was supposed to host the series between the two nations but Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet made an official decision on the matter. This series will count towards the ICC Women’s Championship points, and therefore needs a decision soon.

According to ZeeNews, BCCI said they have no say in this and that the government will take the final call. The series can be played before the end of this month and BCCI says they still have time to respond. PCB said they were open to hosting the event in Dubai if BCCI agrees.

ZeeNews quoted the ICC spokesperson who said, “The two sides have until the end of this month to play the series, which has to be hosted by Pakistan. If the series doesn’t go ahead, then the matter will be referred to the Event Technical Committee.”

Out of the 8 teams that are a part of the ICC Women’s Championship, the top four get an automatic entry into the 2017 Women’s World Cup that is to be held in England. The bottom four have to fight it out to be a part of the championship.
