“I’m just fed-up of people making it to be a death of some sort. In fact, it should be a message to a lot of people that marriage or having a family has absolutely nothing to do with my career.”
This was Kareena Kapoor Khan, frank as ever, commenting on the ‘big fuss’ that news of her pregnancy has generated. As reported by Hindustan Times, at a press conference she was asked the inevitable question about how her soon to-be mom status would affect her work. Sure enough came the befitting reply:
“I’m pregnant, not a corpse. And what maternity break? It’s the most normal thing on earth to produce a child. It is high time the media back off, and stop treating me any different than I ever was. Anybody who is bothered shouldn’t work with me… but my work goes on as is, like always. Stop making it a national casualty. We are in 2016, not in the 1800s. Probably, even at that time, people were way more civilised and normal than the way the media is behaving and speculating now.”
In most industries pregnancy is believed to be no less than a death for women’s careers. And Bollywood is no different. Most of the film fraternity believes that any actress regardless of the era she belongs to will lose her beauty, her charm and her popularity after marriage. And once actresses have children, well, they can very well say goodbye to good roles and characters in films.
So when in July Saif Ali Khan took to social networking site Twitter to proudly announce to the world the news that he and his wife Mrs.Kareena Kapoor Khan are expecting a child which is due in December, the rumor mills started working overtime, fuelling speculation about the future of her career. There was gossip that Alia Bhatt might replace her in Golmaal 4. This seems to have angered the actress no end, and her outburst no doubt comes as a way to silence all critics. After all, she does belong to a generation of women who don’t believe marriage and children spell death for their careers, but believe in achieving a right family-work life balance.
No doubt actresses like Kajol and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan chose to take a bit of a break from films following childbirth, but they did come back to the arclights, and continue to mesmerize audiences. And so, regardless of all the gossip that is doing rounds in the industry Kareena is happy and content with her married life and her personal decisions. She currently has over 18 brand endorsement deals, and she plans to shoot for the campaigns in the upcoming months. Ask her about her association with her brands, and she says, “It is great… they will love me for what I stand for, what I represent, and my talent.” she states in a Press release.
More power to more like her!
