Firebrand. Fierce. Free
Say hello to FEMINIST RANI. India’s first effort to engage, empower & elevate conversations on the subject of Feminism beyond its current shell.
SheThePeople.TV Presents the director of Lipstick Under My Burkha, Alankrita Shrivastava. She will be our guest on this edition of Feminist Rani at Door No.1 in Bandra on May 26th 5:00 pm. Alankrita fought the ban on her film Lipstick Under My Burkha which was termed ‘too lady oriented’ by the film certification board of India. This led to a furore against the board by people on social media across the world. The movie has traveled across some of the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
Feminist Rani identifies opinion leaders – men and women who have advocated gender equality and women’s rights through their work, words and deliberation. These compelling conversations will happen at a charming venue in Mumbai.
We are inspired by heroic women – no less than the woman on the street earning for her family to those who are driving change being activists, artists, CEOs, peacemakers, entrepreneurs. We celebrate women who enrich our lives, stand for gender progress and balance and believe in women. Feminist Rani is the culmination of these efforts and ideas
Alankrita will join us to discuss the challenges that come with being a firebrand and fierce director, voicing the views that must be heard. She will be in conversation with author Meghna Pant to discuss whether our films can showcase real women, why women continue to be defined as per male expectations, why sexual agency remains the carte blanche of male characters, and why women pay a hefty price in smashing patriarchy.
Address: Door No 1, Bandra Reclamation, Mumbai on 26th May from 5:30 – 7:00 pm.
