Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has announced the launch of his foundation to serve the children of the 25 CRPF personnel martyred in the Maoist attack in Chhattisgarh’s south Sukma area on Monday. Gambhir said his organization would bear all education expenses for the kids.
The Indian cricketer is known to be vocal about issues related to India’s armed forces. In the past, he was outraged over the viral videos that showed CRPF jawans in Kashmir in a brutally abused situation by civilians. He then tweeted:
With the martyrs’ families left with no support, Gambhir has decided to back them as best as he can.
Gautam Gambhir tweeted saying:
In a column for Hindustan Times, the cricketer wrote, “On Wednesday morning, I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One was saluting her martyred father while in the other picture, the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative,” and announced that his foundation will bear the expenses of education of the children of the CRPF men martyred in the Maoist ambush in Chhattisgarh.
He added, “The Gautam Gambhir Foundation will take care of the entire education expenses of the children of these martyrs. My team has already started work on this and I shall soon share the progress we have made.”
“It is for the same reasons I love armed forces too, although the quantum of losing a dear one while serving the country can never ever be compared to losing a cricket match,” Gambhir said.
