Actor Zeenat Aman, who is now also known for sharing the wisdom of life through Instagram, recently shared a personal journey of courage and transformation on her social media platform. On November 7, the actor revealed that in May she underwent a surgical procedure to address a long-standing medical condition affecting her vision. For decades, Zeenat Aman had been living with a condition called ptosis, a result of an injury sustained many years ago that had damaged the muscles around her right eye. Over time, this condition caused her eyelid to droop progressively, even obstructing her vision in recent years.

Aman, whose career was significantly tied to her appearance, opened up about the emotional challenge of facing such a dramatic change in her looks. She acknowledged that her condition had narrowed her professional opportunities and attracted unwarranted attention. Nonetheless, she never felt diminished by it, partly due to the support of loyal colleagues who continued to work with her.

The actor went on to reveal that, for years, the available treatments proved to be unsuccessful. However, in April of this year, she consulted a prominent ophthalmologist, who informed her that surgery could potentially lift her eyelid and restore her field of vision.

From Facing Ptosis To Embracing A New Vision

However, the decision to undergo the procedure was not an easy one. On the day of the surgery, she described feeling terrified, her body shaking involuntarily with fear. Her family, particularly her son Zahaan, provided much-needed reassurance and support.

The surgery was successful, and she emerged from the operating room with a new lease on life. Her vision had significantly improved. While her recovery continues, she expressed her joy and gratitude for the procedure's success.

Zeenat Aman concluded her heartfelt post with a deep appreciation for her family, the staff at Hinduja Hospital, and especially Dr Savari Desai, the skilled ophthalmologist who made this transformation possible. Her revelation about her personal journey not only reflects her strength but also encourages others to face their own 'elephants in the room' with courage.

She's all set to make a comeback in the movies and will begin shooting for her next film, Bun Tikki, alongside Shabana Azmi and Abhay Deol.

As per information available on the National Institute of Health's website, ptosis is a condition characterised by the upper eyelid drooping, and individuals typically seek medical attention due to issues related to vision impairment and appearance. Ptosis can be categorised as either congenital or acquired and may have various causes, including neurological, muscular, aponeurotic, mechanical, or traumatic factors.
